Oh, I Have Skills
Okay. Tonight at Dutch Dance, Mrs. Fabiano reminded us that Captain Sundae's is open. Not only is it open, but it's open until 9:30 at night.
Thursday, Mar. 27, 2003 - 10:10 pm I was already planning on staying at school after practice. There was an NAHS workshop, and I have a piece I'd like to finish before tomorrow seminar. So I was gonna hit the last hour of that before heading home. But then there was still half an hour before Captain Sundae's closed...so April and I headed out to Captain Sundaes. First of all, let me say that at 9 at night, it's quite chilly out near the lake. At least, if you're only wearing pajama pants and a tank top. And then when you're eating an ice cream sundae, it doesn't help matters. Anyway. For those who don't know, Captain Sundae's has this cool cement turtle you can sit on. It's been there forever and everybody loves it. Whenever there aren't small children around, I sit on it still. Or attempt to. Tonight, after I got my sundae, April and I went over to the turtle. She sat on the head, and I was gonna sit on the shell. I was already having issues 'cause I was holding my sundae in one hand, my wallet in the other, and had my book bag thrown over my shoulder. And I'm freezing. I threw my leg over the turtle's shell and sat down. Then kept sliding. I, in all my grace, slid off the turtle. Landed on my butt on the wood chips. April laughed. I laughed. It was good stuff. And all of you missed it :-Þ See, you should all be in Dutch Dance and/or NAHS. Then you'd get to come do fun stuff like this. Mrs. Dobrez rocks hard core (to borrow a phrase). Got home from rehearsal tonight and checked out my e-mail. Mrs. Dobrez told me that a new galley had just come in called BOY MEETS BOY (though not to be confused with the comic), and the YALSA-BK listserv just had a thread about GLBT YA books, and Mrs. Dobrez sent a list of resources on to me since she knows I'm in charge of pulling together a bibliography on that theme. When I replied, I asked if we had a copy of GRAVEL QUEEN. Tonight, I find out that not only is Mrs. Rutan sending Mrs. Dobrez a copy of GRAVEL QUEEN, but THE FLIP SIDE, about a cross dressing boy, just came in. Unfortunately, I don't get to have all of them at once ;-) I wouldn't want them, though. I won't have time to read them all this weekend. Tomorrow we meet with Mr. Nicolette (allegedly. The man has another meeting scheduled at the same time we're scheduled to meet with him), then probably go out to JP's to meet Chris and Brad, then I go to work until 8, and then finally we get D&D started (at some point tomorrow I need to make up my character, lol). And on Saturday I have a forensics meet (I also need to memorize my poem tomorrow. Bah). Sunday...I'm considering actually doing homework. Since I probably won't have time between Rehearsal, forensics and Dutch Dance on Monday 'cause I need to take people out to Captain Sundae's. A girl in the play and my Dance group has lived in Holland for three years and has never been to Captain Sundaes. I'm going to remedy that. And I'll probably have to take Jake as well. If the kid has never seen Dutch Dancers, it's entirely probable that he hasn't been to Captain Sundae's either. Okay. I need to go to bed now. My contacts are seriously blurring. I'm going blind. :-Þ Proving the misuse of free speech. --Angela -
