It Was a Murder, but Not a Crime
I adore Chicago. Someone can get me the movie soundtrack for...damn, no major holidays are coming up, are they? That's why spring and summer suck. There's absolutely no reason to give me presents. Wait, except I have graduation coming up in June...anyone wanna give me an early present? ;-)
Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2003 - 5:54 pm I'm gonna hunt down a karaoke version of Cell Block Tango and find a bunch of my friends who would do it with me for Collage Concert. Pierson wants something "out of the ordinary" with "audience appeal." This definitely has both. We could do a little dancing, and have lots of fun being all scandalous, lol. Let's see, what've I been doing the last two days...a whole lot of nothin'. Hung out at Britt's yesterday. Called Nicole to get advice on the Rebecca (aka Lain. I gave her the nick name solely for Nicole's benefit, 'cause I knew it would drive her crazy ;-) situation. Her only advice is not to rush into anything, which even she admits is a hell of a lot easier said than done. I want her to come to play rehearsal sometime and just see how Rebecca attaches herself to me, and then talk about not rushing, lol. Though I think Rebecca understands that I'm absolutely not doing anything until MIFA is over. I hope she understands. Though I do have to admit I'm a little tempted to stay at school tomorrow for lunch since Rebecca is joining us for 'B' lunch.... Anyway. MIFA. Oy. Due to some unexpected losses at Districts, we're now going to have to compete against Holland at Regionals. Shitdamnhell. I don't want to compete against Holland, especially when Foley is talking a bunch of shit about how we can easily beat them. He's saying how we've beaten them at Regionals before (no we haven't: the only way we get to State is when we don't compete directly with Holland) and how in my 10th grade year we beat them and got first at Districts. I was about to rush Foley then. We did not get first. We didn't even get a one! We got a two and third place, behind Holland and Holland Christian. So I've resolved to eat, sleep and breathe my character. Not only do I want to win that damn acting award in two weeks, but I'm hoping I can, in some small way, inspire the other cast members to kick it in to gear and ignore Foley. Some of them have already caught on to the egregious "we beat Holland in Regionals" lie, but not enough. We need to kick ass and take names on a relatively flimsy script. The wonderful signs April and Laura and making are gonna help though :-) Adding the audience participation element is gonna be awesome (and if Fate conspires against us and makes us compete at Holland I expect all of my friends in the West Michigan area who didn't see me at Districts to come see me ~glares at people like Jen, Amanda and Nicole~). Anyway. Um...first day of 2nd semester today. Only had one new class: Decades of American and World History 2. Decades 2 for short. Though in about a week I'm sure I'll just be calling it Decades. It sounds like it's gonna be fun, though. We're studying major social/political events, recreational activities, fads, music, fashion, arts, etc. of the '50s, '60s and '70s. So I'm hoping I'll finally get an in-depth look at the second wave of feminism in a class room setting, since everyting I've covered in school so far has mostly focused on first wave (Seneca Falls, suffragists, etc.) and I've read tons on the third wave (contemporary feminism. '90s to now) but I haven't had much of a chance to look at the '60s and '70s. Tomorrow I get to start my fun new classes: Painting and Drawing with April, and then Humanities. I've heard lots of good stuff about the class, so I can't wait to take it. Ross (crazy California friend) isn't coming up to Michigan :-Þ Apparently the trip was actually scheduled for last week, but all the guys dropped out because of the freakin' Super Bowl. Like Michigan is so far out of the way we don't get the Super Bowl? The snow doesn't wreak that much habit with the cable! He tried to say I'd have skipped out on going to California if I were in a play, but I explained that was a slightly different situation: I'm a committed member of a play, not a spectator. If the choice were visit California (and thus him) and simply see a play, I'd probably choose California. I can only think of a few instances where I'd choose the play (I was being offered a trip to New York, Toronto or Chicago; it was the same weekend as Sondra's show...shit, I need to find out when exactly that one is!). Saw the BBYA Top Ten list today. LAMB made it ~happy dance~ So did HOUSE OF THE SCORPION and...I don't know. Some others that I was pretty happy about. I don't think POSTCARDS FROM NO MAN'S LAND (the Printz winnder) did, but I don't really care about that. Haven't seen the full list 'cause it's not posted yet :-Þ If I get on again later tonight I'm probably gonna change the format of my diary again. I get bored quickly, I know.
