ohmygodohmygodohmygod!

First GSA meeting today.

Oh my god.

31 people showed up. 31! Including two freshmen that John invited.

Overall the meeting went really well. I'd describe it but...it all passed in a blur. I have a couple of things I'm concerned about, but nothing major.

Gah! It was so cool! We were all bouncing around excitedly as people kept filing into the room. It's definitely good that we didn't meet in the couch room. There wouldn't have been nearly enough room. There nearly wasn't this time around (we always had at least one person standing, and that's not including the adults that showed up as well). But it was so cool! We just need to get a little more organized (ie, let the people elected to do the talking do the talking! Brittany! ;-).

There's also one kid I'm concerned about. He's not a "mean person" but I can tell he isn't completely comfortable being there. I talked to him afterwards about the meeting and he said he was still "Getting comfortable with the idea." I said that's what we're here for and he said something along the lines of that he didn't have a problem with people "who were that way" it was just...something else. That something else he was never really clear on. This is also the kid who apparently was offended that I (or someone) said the phrase "oh my god." In a way I understand how some people don't like to hear that phrase but, still...

~shrugs~ I don't know. I don't really care. We had our first GSA meeting!!! ~bounce bounce bounce~

We're gonna be doing some great things with this group, I can tell already. There are lots of people who are upset over the fact that we're being treated differently than other clubs, and I think Mr. Nicolette is going to start hearing from several students about that situation. We explained what we understood as his reasoning behind decisions like not letting us advertise in the hallways, and our reasons for not really pushing it, but we did say that other students who weren't directly involved in the formation of the GSA were welcome to voice their concerns as well.

Other points of interest: the group currently is overwhelmingly straight or undisclosed-orientation members. Which is incredibly awesome. All these people who support our cause are just coming out of the woodwork...wow.

And then there's Angela's paranoia, lol.

One of the questions/comments brought up during Q&A was about coming out, so a bunch of people felt like chiming in on that, including Nicole and Brittany. Both of whom decided to try to share what it was like when I came out to them, but only referring to me as "a certain friend." About half the people in the room were looking at me by the time Brittany started speaking, referring to her 'certain friend' (after it was established about five minutes ago that I was one of her best friends and that I'm gay) and gesturing in my general direction. It was really bad, lol. But I'm over it now.

Hm. What else, what else... ~watches TV absently for a moment~ That 'Princess Power Hour' on Toon Disney is crap. 'Aladdin' very rarely has episodes that focus on Jasmine. And unless things have changed since I last attempted to watch that 'power hour,' they don't even always show those few episodes. It's crazy.

Did storytelling at Glerum today. It was fun. Not as fun as last year (these 5th graders were dead), but still pretty cool. It got me out of class, which is always a good thing.

Jen, hope your auditions are going well! I wish I could audition ~sigh~ But I'm sure you're doing wonderfully.

For everyone's, especially Jen's, information, the next PFLAG meeting is on the 21st. Next GSA meeting is on the 17th (happy St. Patrick's day, everyone!). I've gotta e-mail those things to people.

And I really should stop making out with Chris. Gay men and lesbians...why can't we keep our hands off each other?
