Feeling Better
Saturday night made up for my early morning melancholy.
Tuesday, Jul. 15, 2003 - 12:02 pm I went out with Mom and cast members of Red Barn's Cabaret and Once Upon a Mattress to do karaoke. It rocked. We were at a place that's usually a piano bar, but the owner invited the Barn people over to do karaoke ('cause they're, obviously, better at singing than the average person off the street) and were giving out free food and drinks. Mom asked around and was told it'd be fine if I came along and sang and such, especially since I've been helping out on costuming odd jobs. So I went and got to sing a bunch. I sang 'I Will Survive', 'Brother Love's Traveling Salvation Show' with Mom (she was getting tipsy on her wine) and 'With a Little Help From My Friends' with Steven (he played...the nazi guy in Cabaret, lol. The one who kept sending Cliff to Paris. And he's gonna be Sir Harry in the next show. He's usually an ass, but he was pretty fun Saturday night). Also sang a bunch just randomly 'cause the monitor was high enough that you could stand by and watch the lyrics and sing along. So I sang along with Stacey (Sally Bowles) to 'Me and Bobby McGee' and two of the crew women sang 'Bohemian Rhapsody', so everyone sang along with that (complete with headbanging ;-). Oh! And Eric-Todd (the M.C.) sang 'Love Potion Number 9'. Now, Eric-Todd is about as gay as you can get, so when he got to the line "I told her I was a flop with chicks," he added 'Yeah." Hee hee. Okay, maybe you had to be there. but then, one of the other tables was brought some dish that was on fire, and Stacey (who was already getting a little tipsy) was like "There's something flaming here! The actors are over there ~points to us~ yet there's something flaming over here ~points to the food." The whole night was so much fun. So much like going out with the gang. As soon as we're all old enough, we're all gonna hit a karaoke bar, 'kay? (I can't wait to go to one when we're all over 21, lol) Anyway, apparently the next day at the Barn, several people told Mom they were impressed with my singing ~grin~ And one of the guys, Sean (Cliff in Cabaret) said that if I'm serious about acting, I need to memorize 7 monologues that I can perform at the drop of a hat: Comedic modern, dramatic modern, comedic classic, dramatic classic and three that I love. I already have comedic modern covered ;-) In other news, Gail called me this morning. The dean of EAstern's theatre department called her earlier. He's going to do everything possible to get me into that school. No guarantee yet...but I'm very excited :-) --Angela -
